Acting Principal Viola
Hilary Gamble has been hailed as a rising star performer, touring as a chamber musician and soloist throughout the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. She is currently Acting Principal Viola with the Jacksonville Symphony in Florida. She was recently Associate Principal Viola with the Orquesta Estable de Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Associate Principal with the Orquesta Filarmonica de Santiago de Chile, and Adjunct Faculty in Viola at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA (USA).
Ms. Gamble was Principal Viola with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, Pacific Music Festival (Japan), Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival (Germany) Teatro Del Lago Internacional Academia (Chile), Orchestra of the Americas (Caribbean Tour), and the Napa Valley Orchestra Institute (California, USA). Ms. Gamble is passionate about bringing music education to underserved communities and has teamed up as a Global Leader with Orchestra of the Americas (Campamento Sinfonico Juvenil, Honduras), Sound Impact (Sinem Costa Rica) and Foundación Pradier (Chaco, Buenos Aires Argentina). She has also performed as guest artist and professor at universities in the USA, Costa Rica and Argentina. Ms. Gamble enjoys new music and has commissioned several works of upcoming composers, as well as performing in pop and rock shows with Univision, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Celebrity Cruises. She won the Pittsburgh Concert Society Major Auditions, was a finalist at the Lennox International Young Artist String Competition, finalist at the Anton Rubinstein International Viola Competition and invited to perform at the Primrose International Viola Competition.
Ms. Gamble received her Bachelor of Music from Geneva College at the age of 20 as an Alpha Chi honors student, and received two graduate degrees from Carnegie Mellon University as a full scholarship recipient and member of the Starling Honors Quartet. She also studied as a Temerty Fellow at the prestigious Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in the Artist Diploma program in Toronto, Canada. In her free time Ms. Gamble enjoys exploring new cultures, cooking with friends and family, and salsa dancing.
