Kevin Karabell, a Venezuelan-American trumpeter, currently holds the position of principal trumpet of the Jacksonville Symphony. He is an adjunct professor of trumpet at Jacksonville University and the University of North Florida. He has served as principal trumpet of the Florida Grand Opera and Palm Beach Symphony under the direction of Gerard Schwarz. Mr. Karabell has also performed as principal trumpet of the New York City Ballet and the Sichuan Symphony in Chengdu, China. In 2017, Mr. Karabell was selected to tour with the Orchestra of Americas to Chile, Argentina and Brazil. During this tour, he recorded Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major with Grammy award-winning pianist Gabriela Montero, which can be heard on Spotify.
Mr. Karabell earned his Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance at Lynn Conservatory of Music as a student of Marc Reese and his Master of Music at the University of Miami, studying with Craig Morris. Mr. Karabell also earned a Professional Studies Diploma in Trumpet at the Cleveland Institute of Music as a student of Michael Miller and Michael Sachs where he was awarded the Dr. Calvin E. Weber Award for Excellence in Trumpet. He has also attended Spoleto Festival USA, Colorado College Summer Music Festival, Chautauqua Summer Music Festival and was also the faculty brass assistant at the Sewannee Summer Music Festival.
