Bringing Holiday Cheer to Mayo Clinic
On December 19, 2017, the Jacksonville Symphony performed a Holiday Pops performance at the Jacksonville branch of Mayo Clinic. The one-hour performance was presented free-of-charge to patients and their families, as well as staff and caregivers in the Kinne Auditorium. The concert was also broadcast throughout the Mayo Clinic closed circuit network, including all rooms and waiting areas not only at the Jacksonville campus, but also at Mayo Clinic’s Arizona and Minnesota campuses as well.
The concert, conducted by Associate Conductor Nathan Aspinall, featured holiday favorites including Leroy Anderson’s A Christmas Festival and Sleigh Ride, Humperdinck’s Overture to Hansel and Gretel, Timothy Hankewich’s arrangement of Kickin’ Kringle and excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker.
Mayo Clinic and the Jacksonville Symphony enjoy a strong partnership. This is the second year that the Jacksonville Symphony has performed the Mayo Clinic Holiday Pops concert. Mayo Clinic is the sponsor of the Symphony’s Community Concert Series.
“This may very well be the most impactful concert we present in our 38-week season,” said Robert Massey, President and CEO of the Jacksonville Symphony. “We are privileged to serve this community and delighted to bring a little bit of holiday cheer through music to those who may not have the opportunity to be home for the holiday.”
