University of North Florida School of Music’s Opera Theater
The UNF Opera Theater program is looking forward to its 17th season during the 2023/2024 academic year! Since its founding in 2007, the UNF Opera Theater has developed into an important training ground for talented young singers. The operas presented as part of this program are cast from UNF voice majors and all operas produced are within the performance capabilities of student voices.
Recent productions include Die Fledermaus, which just closed in April, and Così fan tutte in the Fall of 2022.
In addition to fully-staged operas, the UNF Opera Theater hosts the annual UNF Opera Aria Competition, offering scholarship prizes to the first, second and third place finalists to be used in support of faculty-approved professional development opportunities.
The UNF Opera Theater focuses on skill development, stagecraft and theatrical experience through the production and performance of complete operatic works suitable for student voices.
The program also engages in community outreach performances, student recruitment and promotion of opera locally through production of special concerts, educational programs and school performances.
This coming November, the UNF Opera Theater will put on the fairy-tale classic, Hansel and Gretel, as well as the fourth annual Aria Competition in October.
