Children's Music Festival

The 2026/27 Season brings the return of the Children’s Music Festival, a day of music and hands-on activities. The festival starts with an hour-long concert, Tchaikovsky Discovers America, presented by Classical Kids LIVE! that features the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in an interactive experience with story-telling, acting and live music by Jacksonville Symphony musicians. Hands-on activities in the lobby will take place following the concert, including conducting an ensemble, arts & crafts and an instrument zoo.
This program is recommended for ages six and up.
Tchaikovsky Discovers America
Presented by Classical Kids LIVE!
Based on the actual event, this story tells of the great composer's arrival in New York for the grand opening of Carnegie Hall in 1891 and his famous trip to Niagara Falls. A surprise encounter with a young American girl, Jennie, prompts Tchaikovsky to relive his life in Russia, his love of music and his fears of conducting. A poignant story of the meeting of old-world influences and new world experiences; this is a tale of contrast, courage and classical music.

For families with children aged 10 and up, the Symphony offers a variety of additional exhilarating programs. From iconic film scores performed live while the film is projected on a giant screen to fully-staged productions of the Jacksonville Symphony's First Coast Nutcracker, there are fun outings for the entire family to enjoy together.
