||Symphony No. 1 in G minor, “Winter Daydreams”
With a work the composer describes as “dreams of a winter journey,” a young Tchaikovsky was the first to compose a truly Russian symphony that did not attempt to imitate the looming Germanic style. Contained within are the sounds of the expansive tundra, and a grand style of expression that became a hallmark of Russian music well into the 20th century.
