Zachary Bond (Bass Trombone)

Hometown: Coppell, Texas
Education: Bachelor of Music: The Curtis Institute of Music, Certificate Yale University. He has studied under such artists as Jon Bohls, Keith Meek, Blair Bollinger, Scott Hartman, John Rojak, Mark Lawrence and Steve Norrell.
Performance experience: Having performed with some of the world’s leading ensembles (The Philadelphia Orchestra, Canadian Brass, San Diego Symphony, Houston Symphony, Philadelphia Opera, Philadelphia Ballet, Delaware Symphony, and the Burning River Brass). Zachary has also participated summer music festivals including National Repertory Orchestra, Music Academy of the West, Aspen Music Festival, Verbier Festival, Spoleto USA, and Pierre Boulez’s Lucerne Festival.
He has worked under the direction of such maestros as James Levine, Simon Rattle, Christoph Eschenbach, André Previn, Pierre Boulez, Yuri Temirkanov, Mstislav Rostropovich, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Riccardo Muti, and Sir Neville Marriner.
As a soloist, Zachary was the first prizewinner of both the 2003 Donald Yaxley Bass Trombone Competition in Helsinki, Finland and the 2006 Edward Kleinhammer Orchestral Bass Trombone Competition in Birmingham, England.
In 2008, Zachary performed the world-premiere of Sheridan Seyfried’s bass trombone concerto at the Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall with the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra. Zachary has also performed solo works accompanied by the Curtis Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Sarah Hatsuko Hicks and the Metropolitan Winds under the direction of Randol Bass.
Recently Zachary performed on two newly released albums. The Canadian Brass’s “Echo, The Glory of Gabrieli” and the Houston Symphony’s DVD collaboration with NASA celebrating the advent of High Definition Hubble Telescope images set the music of Gustav Holst’s “The Planets” suite, culminating in a live performance on tour to New York’s Carnegie Hall.
