Marguerite Richardson (Violin)

Member of the JSO: Since 1990

Education: Cleveland Institute of Music, University of South Carolina and completing the Doctor of Music degree in violin performance at Florida State University.

Why the violin? “My mother was a violinist.”

Better known as: Margie

Ensembles: Over the years Margie has performed symphonic music and chamber music throughout the United States, Germany, Italy, Great Britain and Central America. Around the First Coast and the Southeast, she has performed at a variety of venues including Vicar's Landing, Cypress Village, UNF, Amelia Island, and the St. Augustine Music Festival. Margie currently performs in the Florida Arts Trio, with cellist Laurie Casseday and pianist Scott Watkins.

Accomplishments: Margie began and developed the String Program at the University of North Florida from 1995-2003. Currently, she is Assistant Professor of Strings at Jacksonville University, where she maintains a studio of violin and viola students, and conducts the Jacksonville University Orchestra, in addition to her other teaching duties.  Within the JSO community, Margie serves as Associate Conductor of the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Pets: One cat, Alma (named after Mahler’s wife).

Favorite memory with the JSO: The James Taylor concert: “When I was an undergraduate, I wanted to be a violinist in a rock group… although James Taylor’s music is pretty tame, there was still something almost magical about that concert for me.”

Favorite thing about Jacksonville: “The beach and being near the water - there is something very humbling and majestic about being close to the ocean."

Favorite composer: Bach, with Brahms in close second.

Hobbies/interests: A meteorology and astronomy buff, Margie is a Duval County Skywarn storm spotter. If not for music, she would have majored in computer science.

Favorite college team: The FSU Seminoles!
