Why percussion? "As a youngster, I was fascinated by drummers marching by in parades. When the opportunity came to choose an instrument, I chose the snare drum. Thirty plus years later, my home is filled with percussion instruments. I had no idea at the time that choosing the snare drum could lead to so many other instruments, and a career in music.
"I spent most of my childhood playing in the Colonial Musketeers Fife and Drum Corps. The corps was founded in 1975, just in time for the bicentennial. From fourth through tenth grade, I marched in numerous parades, competitions and musters (a gathering of many fife and drum corps) throughout the
Teaching Positions: Kevin is on the music faculties of University of North Florida and Florida State College at Jacksonville. He was Director of Percussion Studies at Stetson University from 2005 to 2010. He also maintains a busy private teaching schedule in the Jacksonville area. He is proud of his many students who have made "all-state," received high honors at solo and ensemble contests, participated in the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra, and have attended college.
Performances: Kevin performs frequently at local churches.
Favorite Composers: Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Barber, Rachmaninoff and Ravel.
Hobbies, interests: "During the orchestra season, I enjoy going to the movies, dining out, and an occasional visit to a driving range. I spend my summers teaching, camping at local springs and swimming holes, and traveling."
