Karen Pommerich (Violin)

Member of the JSO: Since 1991

Hometown: Dubuque, Iowa


Performance experience: After playing for 16 seasons in the core first violin section of the JSO, Karen currently performs with the IRIS Orchestra in Germantown, Tenn., the Florida Orchestra, the Sarasota Orchestra, and the Naples Philharmonic, in addition to playing the JSO Masterworks concerts. She has soloed with the Jacksonville Symphony, the Dubuque Symphony and the National Repertory Orchestra, and has appeared as a violinist and violist in numerous chamber performances. Karen is active in Body and Soul, which brings live music into health care settings. During the summer months she performs in the Colorado Music Festival in Boulder.

Teaching: Karen teaches violin and viola privately, and enjoys coaching chamber music and sectionals for the JSYO, Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, and the Prelude Chamber Music Camp.

Education: Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota. Master of Music degree from Florida State University where she studied violin with Eliot Chapo and viola with Pamela Ryan.
 

Family: Karen is married to trombonist and composer, Michael Hosford. They live in Murray Hill and enjoy the feline company of Rufus, Sophie and China.
