Christopher Dwyer (Horn)
Member of the JSO: Since 2003. Personnel Manager since 2006.
Hometown: Black River, New York
Education: Bachelor of Music-Cleveland Institute of Music, additional studies at the Eastman School of Music and Civic Orchestra of Chicago
Why the horn? “I convinced my school band director to let me join the band a year late as I secretly had a crush on one of the flute players. All he had left was a French horn, so I blindly accepted. The flutist never paid any attention to me, but I did discover my love for music!”
Performance experience: Chris has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, Columbus Symphony, New Mexico Symphony, and the Santa Fe and Sarasota Opera Companies. In summer he plays at the Colorado Music Festival in Boulder. He has recorded on the Deutsche Grammophon, Koch, Ondine and
Home life: Chris’ wife Laura performs as Principal Flute with the Sarasota Opera. “You didn’t think that I was going to give up on flute players just because of my first bad experience, did you?”
