Carol Whitman (Violin)

Member of the JSO: Since 1982. Carol also serves as the orchestra's librarian.

Hometown: Louisville, Ky.

Education: Bachelor of Music Education with Honors from University of Louisville


Musical training: Carol began violin lessons at age six. She grew up in a musical family—her mother played violin with the Louisville Orchestra for 40 years.

Teachers: Paul Kling and Peter McHugh (both former concertmasters of the Louisville Orchestra) and Ruth French

Music educator: A Suzuki Violin Instructor, Carol has taught students in Kentucky, Mississippi and Florida. She coaches and accompanies local students for Solo & Ensemble Festivals.

Performance experience: In addition to the JSO, Carol has performed with the Louisville Orchestra, Louisville Bach Society, New Philharmonic (Chicago) and the Savannah Symphony. An active chamber musician, she performs around the area as a member of the Arabesque Trio and the River City String Quartet. Since 1990, Carol has served as organist at the First Presbyterian Church in Fernandina Beach.

Recreation/hobbies: The proud mother of three children, Michael, Alison and Steven, Carol enjoys walking, gardening, crafting, traveling and surfing the “net.”

Most memorable JSO experiences: 1998 Carnegie Hall concert and sharing the stage at the Major/Minor Concerts with her son, Michael, for two years.
