The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra's Fresh Ink symposium celebrates the achievements of Florida composers. The orchestra has scheduled Fresh Ink for May 22 and 23, 2012. An award winning American composer will be in residency as mentor during orchestral reading sessions of selected works conducted by Maestro Fabio Mechetti. The mentor, the musicians of the JSO, and Maestro Mechetti will select the winning work to be performed on the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra Fresh Ink Final Concert. The winning composer will receive a commission to produce a new work, to receive its premiere by the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra in an upcoming season.

Guidelines

• Composers must be a resident of the state of Florida.

• There is no age restriction for applicants.

• The submitted work should not previously have received a professional performance by a major symphony orchestra with a budget of $3 million or more.

• Preference will be given to unperformed works.

• Total duration is limited to 15 minutes. Movements will be accepted.

• Instrumentation must not exceed:

                3*/2*/2/2  4/3/3/1  T+3  Hp Pf/cel (no organ) strings

• Only one work per composer will be considered.

• Concertos, choral and other vocal works, as well as works  for winds or brass only are not eligible.

• Orchestra parts for chosen works are to be made available by the composer and will be

required to conform to the American Composers Forum Music Copying Guidelines.
