Community Programs

The Philharmonic has several programs geared toward the adult population. These include: pre-concert lectures, Talk back, Symphony 101 and ensemble performances in nursing homes and nutrition sites

Pre-Concert Lectures

Pre-concert conversations begin one hour prior to Masterworks concerts onstage in Jacoby Hall. Using an informal half-hour format, Music Director Fabio Mechetti and other distinguished speakers discuss the music to be presented that evening.

Symphony101

Symphony 101 allows participants to discover what happens behind the scenes of a Symphony production. This lunch and lecture program is held in a casual setting to allow interaction between participants and presenters. Following the lecture participants attend a JSO rehearsal.

Cost: $15 for box lunch, lecture and open rehearsal

Thursday, Jan 19 Symphony 101 – The Music Librarian, 12:30 pm
Another behind the scenes event as we meet the JSO music librarians, visit the JSO music library and learn about the notes on the page.

Wednesday, March 7 Symphony 101 – The Architecture of Music, 12:30 pm
How is a rondo different from a sonata-allegro? Discover the structure of music with Laura Dwyer and Tony Kamnikar as they explore musical forms and how composers use them to build compositions.

Ensemble Program in Nursing Homes and Nutrition Sites

JSO Ensembles offer 40-minute concerts in nursing homes and nutrition sites. Funding is received from various funding sources to provide these concerts free of charge or at a reduced rate.
